Help & support

Start with the guide that matches what went wrong. If it's still broken, the form at the bottom goes straight to a person — or write to info@meetbuddy.us. We reply within 3 working days.

The extension isn't working

Buddy's toolbar icon is missing, greyed out, or clicking it does nothing. Work down this list — it's ordered by how often each one is the culprit.

It isn't pinned to the toolbar+
Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle-piece icon. Click the puzzle piece, find Buddy, and click the pin beside it. The install page shows exactly where to look.
It's installed but switched off+
Open your browser's Extensions page, find Buddy, and make sure its toggle is on. Chrome sometimes disables extensions after a crash or an update.
Your browser is too old, or isn't supported+
Buddy needs Chrome 116 or newer. Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Opera all work. Safari and Firefox don't. Update your browser, then restart it fully.
Your account connection expired+
Connections last 90 days. Open account settings and press Reconnect — it takes a few seconds and doesn't touch your saved work.
Nothing above helped+
Remove Buddy from your extensions page, reinstall it, then connect your account again. Your assignments live on your account, not in the extension, so nothing is lost.

Buddy didn't detect my assignment

Buddy opens, but it says it can't find a question on the page. Almost always it's one of these.

The assignment hadn't finished loading+
Let the page settle completely, then open Buddy again. On slow connections Canvas and Classroom draw the question after the rest of the page.
The question is inside an embedded viewer+
PDF viewers and embedded frames — Lumin, Kami, some Canvas worksheets — are experimental. Try opening the document in its own tab rather than inside the course page.
The question is an image or a scan+
If the question is a picture rather than text, take a screenshot and use it in the workspace— it reads pictures.
You're on the course list, not the assignment+
Buddy reads the page you're actually looking at. Open the individual assignment first, so the question is visible on screen.
It's a platform we haven't verified+
Use the report form below and pick the platform. Detection is tuned per platform, and a report with the platform named is what gets it fixed.

Insert Answers didn't work

You approved a draft, but the text didn't land in the assignment — or it landed and then vanished.

The answer field wasn't a normal text box+
Rich-text editors and custom widgets sometimes reject typed text. Copy the draft from Buddy and paste it in yourself — the draft stays on screen for exactly this reason.
The page reloaded between drafting and approving+
Buddy targets the field it found when it read the page. If the page refreshed or you navigated, open Buddy again so it re-reads the current page.
The text appeared, then disappeared+
Some platforms clear a field that wasn't typed by hand. Buddy checks after inserting and tells you honestly when the answer didn't stay — when that happens, paste it manually.
The assignment was locked or already submitted+
Closed, submitted and past-due assignments are read-only. Buddy can explain the work, but nothing can be placed into a locked page.
It keeps failing on one platform+
Report it below with the platform selected and the page address if you can share it. That's the fastest route to a fix.

I can't sign in

Sign-in trouble on the Buddy website itself.

Forgot your password+
On the sign-in screen choose "Forgot password" and we'll email you a reset link. The link opens a page where you set a new password and go straight into your workspace.
"We couldn't find an account with that email"+
The address probably has a typo, or you signed up with a different one — a school address and a personal one are two separate accounts. If neither works, create an account; we'll tell you if one already exists.
"That password doesn't match"+
Check caps lock, then use the reset link rather than guessing. Repeated failed attempts don't lock your account, but the reset is faster.
You originally signed up with Google+
Use the Continue with Google button. If you later set a password on the same email, both work and land in the same account — Google never creates a duplicate.
The Google window closes without signing you in+
Allow pop-ups for this site, and if you're in a school-managed profile try a personal profile or a normal window — some school policies block third-party sign-in.
You get signed out over and over+
Buddy keeps you signed in through refreshes. If it doesn't, your browser is likely clearing site data on close, or you're in private browsing. Also check that cookies aren't blocked for this site.

Billing and plan problems

Buddy is free during the private beta, so nothing is charged yet. These are the answers for when paid plans switch on.

A payment failed+
We retry on day 1, day 3 and day 5, and email you each time. Your plan stays usable through all three attempts and only pauses if every one fails. The failed status is visible in account settings the whole time.
How do I update my card?+
From the plan panel in account settings. Updating your details triggers a fresh attempt straight away rather than waiting for the next retry.
My plan hasn't updated+
Plan changes can take a moment to land. Reload account settings first. If it still shows the old plan after a few minutes, send us the form below and we'll correct it by hand.
I cancelled — when do I lose access?+
At the end of the period you've already paid for, never immediately. Your assignments stay on your account either way. See cancellation & refunds.
I've hit my monthly question limit+
You'll see a warning before you get there, and you're always allowed to finish the question you're working on. Limits reset on the same date each month.
